DOHA: The Emergency Department at Hamad Medical Corporation’s Al Wakra Hospital receives over 300 adult and paediatric patients daily.
The department has completed one year of providing emergency care. It consists of four rooms where women receive triage and treatment in a comfortable environment.
There are three waiting areas — two for females and one for male relatives accompanying female patients.
The department also has two areas that cater to the emergency medical needs of male patients — the GCC male fast-track see and treat area, with five triage cubicles, and a bachelor’s fast-track see and treat area, on the ground floor, treats male patients with minor illnesses.
“The department is staffed by specialists who are highly-skilled emergency trained physicians,” said Dr Muayad Kasim Khalid, Head of the Adult Emergency Department.
“There are four triage rooms and five treatment beds in this area, coupled with a radiology room, ophthalmology room, ear, nose and throat room and a dedicated pharmacy.
“We have taken into consideration the culture of the country and understand the privacy female patients need; therefore, we have a dedicated female fast- track see and treat area.”
The department on the first floor of the hospital was opened in December 2012.
It also welcomes newborns and children up to 13 years needing urgent medical care. “Emergency services are free and available to everyone requiring them,” Dr Khalid added.
