DOHA: Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Journals and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) yesterday launched Innovations in Global Medical and Health Education on QScience.com, the digital publishing portal for academic research journals.
It is a new, peer-reviewed, open-access, international education journal dedicated to keeping medical healthcare educators, physicians, healthcare professionals and students abreast of issues related to global medical and health education.
Content will be ‘open access’, meaning they are free-to-read on the web and authors retain copyright on their works.
The journal will provide a forum for the exchange of information that addresses achievements and challenges of global medical and health education.
This will be done by highlighting innovations that facilitate globalisation in medical and health education and engage opinion leaders globally in policymaking endeavours relevant to global medical and health education.
It also aims at stimulating consistent debate on innovations in global education.
Dr Javaid I Sheikh, Dean of WCMC-Q and co-editor of the journal, said: “We believe that we are in the beginning phase of a major movement towards globalisation of medical and health education.
“By providing a platform for a healthy debate on achievements, challenges, and innovations in global medical and health education, this journal intends to be in the vanguard of this paradigmatic shift.”
The launch of the journal is an important step in Qatar Foundation’s and BQFJ’s mission to reflect the burgeoning research environment of Qatar to the wider world through a state-of-the-art publishing enterprise.
Arend Küster, Managing Director of BQFJ, said, “As the world’s population grows, so do its healthcare needs, and we are very pleased to be able to help spread knowledge about how to educate those in charge of our care.
“It is critically important that innovations in medical and health education are available to all, so this journal’s open access policy is a big plus for aspiring medics, nurses, health-givers, and those who teach them, all over the world. This partnership between QScience and WCMC-Q will have wide-ranging impact for many years to come,” he added.
