DOHA: Qatari artist Abdulrahman Al Mutawa draws inspiration from old tales about the sea as told by his ancestors in his latest solo exhibition which opens tonight at Katara.
‘The language of water and stone of Qatari islands’ expo features paintings inspired by stories about the sea told by Qatari forefathers hundreds of years ago.
Al Mutawa said his relation with the sea was deeply rooted to his childhood when he would visit the sea together with his family.
The dhows and their sails floating and interacting with the waves were among the things he remembers.
“Once when I was in one of the islands, I saw graves which raised a number of questions in my mind, taking me back to my grandfathers and their stories, and their efforts for us to reach this stage of development,” he said.
The expo opens at 6pm and is open to the public until January 29 at Building 22.
