Doha: Total in Qatar held a road safety campaign in partnership with the Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior, reaching out to about 10,000 children in the age group 5-8. It was held in Darb Al Saee from December 8 until 20 and will continue in the following years to reach out to more children of primary schools in the same age group.
Total set up a classroom and held 45-minute sessions daily to teach children basic road rules and raise their awareness about road safety to reduce accidents.
A road safety cube, containing major international road signs, was produced to support implementation of the programme. On completion of the course, children received a colouring booklet that explains basic road signs, along with a certificate signifying their awareness of basic road safety guidelines.
“The campaign aims to teach the drivers of tomorrow, who will act as traffic police in their families, encouraging them to follow traffic rules to be safe,” said Yousef Al Jaber, Head, CSR and Institutional Relations, Total E&P Qatar.
Maher Thabet, General Manager, Total Marketing Qatar,  said, “The campaign aims to reach out to 14,000 children and will expand. Our aim is to see the initiative grow in the coming years and help save thousands of lives”.
“It is our responsibility to teach children about road safety, and it is important to do so now so they become responsible drivers at a later age,” said Guillaume Chalmin, Managing Director, Total E&P Qatar and Group Representative.
Total will also conduct these courses at schools to reach out to a larger audience.
