DOHA: Al Wakra Municipality has closed down three ice manufacturing facilities in Barwa Village for failure to meet health requirements.
They were found selling ice unfit for human consumption, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
Irregularities were detected during an inspection campaign launched by the Health Control Department at the municipality, in collaboration with the Industrial Control Department at the Ministry of Energy and Industry.
It targeted shops and facilities selling and manufacturing ice in the jurisdiction of the municipality.
Inspectors discovered steel and templates in ice, rickety equipment and inappropriate storage methods, said a report.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce registered 26 violations of the Consumer Protection Law during surprise raids in Al Wakra, Al Wukair, Al Mamoura, Al Markhiya and Al Rayyan.
Seven cases involved furniture shops in Al Mansoura, Old Rayyan, and New Rayyan that failed to display the prices for public information, said a statement issued by the ministry yesterday.
Two fruit and vegetables shops in Al Wukair and Al Wakra were fined for failure to comply with the daily price list issued by the ministry. A laundry and an ice cream shop face action also for not displaying the prices.
A shop in Markhiya violated the law by issuing bills to customers carrying a warning that the sold items cannot to be returned or changed.
A laundry and food outlet in the same area face action for offering products and services at prices higher than the declared ones. A food complex was fined for similar offences.
Twelve car decoration shops in different markets were fined for failure to announce the prices for their services offered on National Day. Fines for violations ranged from QR5,000 to QR6,000, said the statement.
