Garlic VH Kapelhof sparkles as Al Duhami tops field in Doha

Saudi rider Ramzy Hamad Al Duhami yesterday celebrated a timely win as Garlic VH Kapelhof produced a flawless routine to win the opening day's honours at the Qatar International Show Jumping Championship.
Garlic VH Kapelhof clocked a time of 29.86 seconds as Al Duhami won the top prize of QR 30,525 in the 145cm competition held at QEF's Main Arena.
Riding under the FEI flag, Ali Al Khorafi finished in second spot with Cheril. The second prize was worth QR 24,420 for Al Khorafi who saw Cheril clock a time of 30.34 seconds.
Saudi rider Khaled Abdulaziz Al Eid, astride Valuta S, secured the third spot in a time of 30.51 seconds. Al Eid picked up the prize of QR 18,315.
Turkish rider Derin Demirsoy (Narazo De NYZE Z, 30.67, QR 12, 210) and Qatar's Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani (Sidoline Van De Centaur, 33.21, QR 8,547) completed the top-5 in the 145cm class competition.
Earlier in competition 2, FEI rider Shaker Al Kazemi guided Dulfina to a comfortable win in the 130-135cm class at the Main Arena at QEF premises.
Dulfina clocked a time of 64.80 seconds as Al Kazemi picked up the top prize of QR 8,750.
Another FEI rider Mershood Al Marshood sealed the second spot with Van Carnute K who clocked a time of 66.31 seconds. The second prize was worth QR 7,000.
Saudi Arabia's Fahad Abdulaziz Al Eid, astride Unlimited, secured the third spot. Unlimited - a 15-year-old mare - clocked a time of 66.34 seconds.
Qatari duo of Hamad Nasser Al Qadi (S I E C Lonnie, 67.31) and Faisal Abdulhadi Al Marri (Le Premier K), completed the top-5 in the QR 35,000 event.
In competition one, Qatari rider Ahmed Mohammed Al Badi yesterday guided Latino 291 to an impressive win in the two-phased 120cm competition.
Latino clocked a time of 26.54 seconds as Al Badi won the top prize o QR 7,500.
Saudi rider Abdullah Al Rajhi - a frequent visitor to Qatar for show jumping events - was in the saddle as H Zoe finished the event in second place.
H Zoe clocked a time of 26.62 seconds as Al Rajhi picked up QR 6,000 for his efforts.
Qatari rider Al Qadi - somewhat a regular feature on the podiums - sealed the third place with his ride St Lucia.
Al Qadi's time was 27.05 seconds. The third-place finish was worth QR 4,500.
Qatari rider Hamad Towaim Al Marri (Cavali Z, 27.57 seconds) and Saudi Arabia's Meshari Al Harbi (BMC White Nose, 27.59 seconds) completed the top five in the 120cm class.
Today, the riders will contest three competitions - 120cm (against the clock with jump-off), 135cm (against the clock with jump-off) and the 145cm contest which is a qualifying round for the FEI World Cup.
The prize bag in the third competition is QR 270,000 while the first contest today has QR 35,000 up for grabs. The riders will be aiming for an overall prize bag of QR 45,000 in the second competition of the day.
The overall prize money at the three-day event is a staggering QR 1.35m.
