DOHA:  Nouman grabbed four wickets to set up Qatar’s five-wicket win over Saudi Arabia in their T20 clash at Asian Town Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Nouman was well supported by Omran who also picked up four wickets as the home team easily chased down the required target off 154 in 18.4 overs in bright and sunny playing conditions.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia made first use of the wicket and put up a total of 153 for the loss of eights wickets on a benign pitch.
Afaq was the star batsman for the visitors smashing 66 off just 39 balls with four sixes and five fours.
Hammad scored 17 off 18 balls whereas Kashif chipped in with 16 off 21 deliveries.
In reply, Qatar raced to their target with eight balls to spare.
Awaid smashed 38 off 26 balls while Khurram hit 36 off 24 deliveries.
Kamran (22 off 17) and Rizlan (21 off 16) also produced useful contributions.
Saudi Arabia’s Mazher and Afzal picked up two wickets each.
Qatar’s Nouman was declared the Man-of-the-Match.
Yesterday’s game was the third of the series. Saudi Arabia won the first two games on Thursday and Friday.
During the presentation ceremony, the trophies were distributed by Mohammad Mahdi Al Ahbabi, Chairman of Al Ajayan Projects and Asian Town Cricket Stadium, along with Manzoor Ahmad, General Secretary of Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), the hosts of the Friendly Cup.
Ahmed thanked Thousand Rent a Car, Holiday Villa and Shehzan Restaurant for their support during the event for the two teams.
Ahmed also thanked the organising committee of the three-match series, saying more events have been lined up by QCA.
“The 22 players who were named for the series will get to play more of such games in the near future,” Ahmed said.
“Our target is to reach the ICC League, a stepping stone to possible berth at ICC World Cup,” he said.
