Over 150,000 visit Al Wasmi Garden Festival

Al Wasmi Garden Festival attracted over 150,000 visitors.  The five-day festival organised by the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) concluded on Saturday.

Visitors enjoyed the scenic views presented by the international gardens, and outstanding entrances and designs inspired by the engineering styles of five countries — Qatar, France, Britain, India, and Japan.

Over 65,000 rose plants and 24,600 small trees for home-gardens were distributed to the visitors of Al Wasmi Garden Festival until Friday, according to General Manager of Katara, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti. The outlets participated in the Festival received 7,200 requests for designing home-gardens.

Over 25,000 seeds of different flower-plants and trees and 38,000 plants were distributed. Over 150,000 packets of basil plant which is called Al Mashmoom locally. A total of 170 shops for garden accessories and 60 eateries and cafeteria participated in the Festival. Al Wasmi Garden Festival hosted workshops on flowers which were participated by 64,800 people.

The different activities of Al Wasmi Garden Festival aimed to raise cultural awareness among people about the world of plants, coordinating flowers and modern technologies related to their cultivation, in addition to joining voices and civilizational behaviours to protect the environment.

This splendid event of Al Wasmi Garden Festival revealed the art of designing and organising gardens, which is one of the most beautiful and fine arts that requires complete knowledge of plants and flowers types, their shapes, the nature of their growth, methods of gardening and colours to harmonise between them.

The multiple designs of gardens displayed on the southern Katara hills demonstrated the rich and fascinating cultures of different nations.  In the Qatari garden, visitors to the festival discovered the traditional procedures used in agriculture and irrigation, such as the “splitting into parts” system, water channels that link the fountains to the agricultural lands.

The gate design of the Indian Garden was inspired by the form of the famous historical landmark Taj Mahal, and visitors found stunning scenery of flowers and roses with fragrant scents, which reflects the picturesque nature of India amid feelings of calm and tranquillity.

The French Garden, presented by Qatar Airways to celebrate the cultural year Qatar - France, was inspired by the progress of the traditional palace gardens in France, adorned with an exquisite design of the Eiffel Tower, the most famous French landmark in the world.
