Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday night that Russia has amassed nearly 200,000 soldiers on his country's borders, with the possibility of a military conflict growing between the two countries.
In his speech, Zelensky said, "Nearly 200,000 soldiers are stationed, (as are) thousands of combat vehicles," on Ukraine's borders.
He noted that he had unsuccessfully sought on Thursday to have a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin amid fears of an imminent Russian invasion.
"I initiated a telephone call with the President of the Russian Federation. Result: silence," Zelensky said.
The West accuses Moscow of massing its forces at Ukraine's borders in preparation for a possible attack on its neighbor, and Western countries fear that the escalation of battles on the front line will serve as a pretext for Russia to invade Ukraine.
