Labour Minister stresses Qatar’s firm stance in support of Palestinian people

Amman: Minister of  Labour, H E Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri stressed the State of Qatar’s firm stance in support of the Palestinian people until they regain all their legitimate rights, out of Qatar’s belief in their just cause and in fulfillment of its moral responsibility that requires standing by justice and supporting the oppressed.

Speaking at the Partner’s Meeting to support the implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy (NES), yesterday the Minister has reiterated  Qatar’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli occupation forces’ storming of the city of Nablus in the West Bank, which is an extension of the occupation’s continuous and systematic crimes against the Palestinian people, accoridng to a press statement issued by the  Ministry of   Labour in Doha yesterday. 

The meeting was held in the presence of Arab ministers of Labour and representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Arab Labour Organization (ALO).

It was organised  by the Palestinian Ministry of Labour in the Jordanian capital, in partnership with the International Labour Organization, the Arab Labour Organization and the German government, aims to find effective mechanisms to create job opportunities for Palestinians in the coming years.

H E Al Marri stressed the importance of supporting the implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy during this time when the brothers are suffering from difficult conditions as a result of the arbitrary occupation measures, in addition to the ruinous effect triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic on various aspects of life.

During his speech at the meeting to support the implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy, he said, “I would like to emphasize here the firm position of Qatar in supporting the Palestinian people until they regain all their legitimate rights and our continuous support for the brothers in the State of Palestine due to our absolute belief in their just cause, and in fulfilment of our moral responsibility that requires us to stand with truth and support for the oppressed people.” He explained that Qatar is aware of the sufferance of the brothers in Palestine from the unjust decisions and procedures of the occupation for more than seventy years, indicating that these measures led to the deterioration of the economic, humanitarian and social conditions, which posed a challenge for job seekers to access decent job opportunities and positive working conditions.

The Minister stressed that the retaliatory and arbitrary measures of the occupation aim to perpetuate the fragile conditions that Palestinian workers live in, whether in the West Bank or in the besieged Gaza Strip for more than fifteen years, explaining that in light of those difficult conditions in Palestine, the pandemic posed more challenges and pressures on the workers, work environment during the past three years.

He noted that the harsh conditions experienced by Palestinian workers require everyone to continue pressure on the occupation to implement its obligations in accordance with international law, pointing to the need to coordinate the unification of the position of the Arab group before international organizations, which contributes to providing the necessary support to overcome the challenges facing the Labour market in the State of Palestine.

H E Al Marri reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause will remain the number-one cause of the Arab and Islamic nation and all honourable and noble people in the world, stressing that Qatar will spare no effort in working to alleviate the difficulties faced by the Palestinian people and intensifying efforts in the field of providing decent job opportunities and supporting education, especially in the field of vocational training. .

He pointed out that Qatar has always sought to provide support to the brothers in Palestine, as there were some initiatives to provide financial support to support the Employment and Social Protection Fund in the State of Palestine in coordination with the International Labour Organization, stressing the need for donor countries to continue their support for the Palestinian Authority in order to face the challenges it is going through, including education and work.

H E Al Marri also conveyed his appreciation to the Arab Labour Organization and the International Labour Organization for their great efforts in organizing these meetings, which allow everyone to exchange ideas and benefit from each other’s experiences.

It is noteworthy that the Palestinian government seeks, through the National Employment Strategy (2021-2025), to improve employment opportunities, increase the participation of women and youth in the Labour market, strengthen Labour market governance, develop active policies and programs for the Labour market, and achieve matching between education and skills, and the needs of the Labour market. Enhancing the resilience of the private sector, increasing productivity and providing decent work opportunities for job seekers.
