Over 8,000 people have renewed their vehicle registration (Istimara) via Metrash2. They were exempted from technical inspection at Fahes centres under preventive measures to contain COVID-19.
“The number of the people who renewed their Istimara through Metrash 2 between March 19 to 23 is 8,361. Their vehicles were exempted from technical inspection at Fahes centres,” said the General Directorate of Traffic on its Twitter account.
The Traffic Department said recently: “All vehicles are exempted from technical inspection at Fahes centre for renewal of their Istimara (registration) from March 22, 2020 until further notice.”
Also Fahes said in a statement: “Due to the recent COVID- 19 crisis and for the betterment of our esteemed customers, and in coordination with Traffic Department, the vehicle inspection registration could be done using Woqod Mobile app effective from March 22, 2020”.
The Traffic Department said yesterday: “The number of beneficiaries of the Vehicles Exemption Initiative from technical inspection until the end of Sunday, (March 22) is 11,575.
To get approval, motorists have to download the Woqod app, navigate to the Fahes section, request for a “new check”, fill in the data and complete the inspection process. Also motorists are not required to bring their vehicles to Fahes for inspection. The Woqod App is available for both iOS and Android platforms and can be downloaded from the respective online stores, Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
Many people have praised the decision, saying that it came at the right time and at the appropriate circumstances as residents cannot leave home. It is also a good step to help motorists, as their circumstances do not allow them to conduct a technical inspection and replace spare parts because of the difficult financial situation, hoping that other entities will take appropriate steps. “An excellent initiative to prevent gatherings,” commented a residents on the initiative on the Traffic Twitter.
