New York: Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations yesterday urged including aspirations of youth into national and foreign policies.
Speaking at a UN Security Council open meeting on the role of youth in combating extremism, violence and promoting peace, Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani said that conflicts in several countries in the region, particularly Palestine and Syria, were affecting peace and stability.
She said terrorism did not arise in a vacuum, but evolved in fragile environments that helped in the growth of extremism, as a result of policies that do not attach importance to the problems of society, including youth.QNA
