Professional and amateur shooters along with archers will be vying for the top prizes at the ‘unique’ Nishan Championship to be hosted by Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) at the Losail Shooting range from June 13 to 20, organisers of the event informed said.
Addressing a press conference QSAA President Ali Mohammed Al Kuwari informed that competitors who pick up the maximum number of points from six events will be crown winners at the end of the eight-day event which will be held during Ramadan.
“There will be two overall winners – amateur and professional. Both the winners (professional and amateur) will be awarded a car,” said Ali Mohammed Al Kuwari.
“The overall second and third place winners, in amateur and professional, will be also be awarded,” he added.
“It is an unique one of a kind event. Both the men and women competitors will be vying for the top prize and there is a possibility that a woman might finish as an overall winner.”
Besides the overall winner, there will be prize winners in all the six categories, for both amateur and professionals.
The contestants will compete in six events of shooting and archery.
Explaining the format Al Kuwari said that a professional shooter cannot skip archery events and vice versa in the format devised by the organisaers.
“It will be fun to see an accomplished professional shooter take part in archery, which will be something new for him. Therein lies the interesting and funny part of the event,” he added.
“It is compulsory to compete in all the six events, no one can skip any of the six. But, competitors who do exceedingly well in three events and fare poorly in the other three, may end up picking up the top prize.”
The QSAA informed that they have lined up several entertainment programmes for children and for the families during the competition, which will begin at 9.30pm and end at 1.30am.
The QSAA said that over 200 shooters and archers are expected to take part in the event
Ordeoo will be the main sponsor of the event and Al Kass will be the host broadcaster and will telecast the proceedings, organisers said.
Registration for the event will began online through the QSAA website from the first day of the Ramadan.
