Beijing: Six miners were killed in a flash flood at a coal mine in northern China, officials said Wednesday.

They said five miners were rescued from the flooding in Dongyu Coal Mine near Taiyuan, capital of the coal-rich Shanxi Province.

The rescue operation ended today and the survivors were being treated, state-run China's news agency (Xinhua) reported.

Officials said there were 11 miners when the flooding occurred yesterday.

It was not clear what caused the flooding.
