Doha, Qatar: The ministries in coordination with authorities and institutions concerned launched a number of initiatives to provide sacrificial animals at suitable prices and ensure health and safety of people during upcoming Eid Al Adha.

The initiatives include subsidising prices of sacrificial animals for citizens and running campaigns to educate people how to select a healthy sacrificial animal.

Under the campaigns, an event ‘How Should Your Sacrificial Animal Be’ will be held from June 25 to 26 from 4pm to 7pm at Labeeb 1 Branch of Al Meera Food Company.

The Ministry of Municipality represented by Al Daayen Municipality in coordination with Al Meera will organise the event. “The initiative for providing sacrificial sheep at subsidised prices to citizens received huge demand on first day on Thursday,” said Director of Public Relations Department at Widam Food Company Musa Al Othman. Speaking to Qatar TV recently, he said that all points designated by Widam for selling susbsidised sheep received a large number of buyers from citizens.

“The initiative was launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company,” said Al Othman. He said that the initiative which began on June 22 will run until July 1, 2023.

The subsidised sheep are available at Widam slaughterhouses located in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakra and Al Sheehabiya.

Under the initiative, imported and local sheep are being offered with 40kg and above at QR1,000 per sheep plus QR50 slaughtering and other service charges.

Apart from the subsidised sheep, Widam also offers different types of sacrificial animals for Eid Al Adha. “Imported Arabic sheep for Eid Al Adha, weighing 18-22kg of meat after slaughter can be collected for QR1,300 from all Widam’s slaughterhouses or purchased as a coupon from Widam app for QR1,350 and received fully slaughtered as one piece from Widam Al Wakrah Slaughterhouse,” the company has tweeted.
