LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Punjab has resented ‘gross violation’ of Election Commission’s code of conduct by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in constituencies where by-elections are being held, especially in NA-68 (the seat vacated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Sargodha).
PTI Punjab President Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry, flanked by general secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid, PTI candidate in NA-68 Nazir Ahmad Malik and other officials, said the entire government machinery was campaigning for the PML-N candidate.
PTI candidate Malik said the government machinery was taking special measures in the NA-68 constituency for the PML-N candidate and it had almost eliminated Chief Election Commissioner’s role.
He said three police stations in the constituency had displayed notices on their premises, saying that no PTI worker or leader was allowed to enter the police station to register a complaint. He said PTI workers were being harassed and threatened with implication in cases.
PTI Punjab president Chaudhry criticised Chief Election Commissioner’s silence and asked him to take notice of the situation.
He said provincial ministers as well as Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal were visiting the constituency to influence the election. He said provincial ministers were leading PML-N candidate’s rallies.
