Jaipur: Three prisoners were killed - one gunned down and two others beaten to death - in a clash between members of two gangs in a jail in Rajasthan’s Bikaner yesterday, police said.
According to police, the incident took place around 6 p.m. at the Central Jail in Bikaner, around 500 km from Jaipur.
“The incident was the fallout of an old rivalry between two gangs. Those who were killed were identified as Balbeer Banuda, Jaiprakash and Rampal,” said a police officer.
Jaiprakash allegedly opened fire at Banuda when they were lodged in the same barracks.
“Banuda died on the spot, while his aide Anand Pal Singh, who is a known criminal, sustained bullet injuries on his shoulder.
Banuda’s other accomplices then beat Jaiprakash and his aide Rampal to death,” said the officer.
The officer added that jail superintendent Surendra Singh has been suspended.
Meanwhile in Kolkata, a woman college student suffered grievous injuries yesterday in an acid attack by an unidentified assailant inside her home in West Bengal’s Burdwan district, police said.
The crime took place in Parapukur area of Burdwan town.
When the door bell rang around 10 am, the woman - who was alone at home then - opened the door. The assailant hurled the acid and ran away.
The student was admitted at the Burdwan Medical College Hospital.
