Indian football legend inaugurates free summer coaching camp

DOHA: A month-long free football camp will be held from August 1 to 31, 2022 at the Birla Public School ground in Abu Hamour. The camp is organized by the Qatar wing of Manjappada, a fan club of Indian football club Kerala Blasters, in association with the Indian Sports Centre.

The camp, for children aged 8 to 18, was inaugurated by former captain of Indian national team Dr I M Vijayan during a function held at the Integrated Indian Community Center (IICC). He also unveiled the logo for the camp. 

The free summer football coaching camp will be held in three age groups of 8-11, 12-14, and 15-18 from 6 pm to 9 pm. 

The coaching mentor is Bino George, who is in charge of the Kerala state team, and who won the Santosh trophy, which is an annual inter-state football tournament in India. AFC-licensed coach Suneesh is the head coach.

The Indian football star was felicitated by Indian embassy first secretary Sachin Dinkar Shankpal. Also present at the function were second secretary Dr Sona Soman, ICC president P N Baburajan, ISC Advisory Council Member Sippy Jose, Manjappada Qatar President Deepesh Govindan Kutty, and Secretary Akhil Noordeen. 

The fan group also presented a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ticket for the Argentine vs Mexico match to the Indian football legend. The event also honoured young footballers from the Indian diaspora in Qatar.
