Islamabad: Two people were killed and 23 others wounded including ten army officials in an attack targeting a military vehicle in Karachi, the capital of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, police said. The explosion occurred outside the Rangers Headquarters in Korangi Thursday evening, Express News reported. Army and Rangers officials were returning to the area after by-elections in the NA-254 constituency had ended when a planted explosive device went off. Army and Rangers personnel were among those injured. Security forces surrounded the area immediately after the blast and the injured were shifted to the hospitals located near the area. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
YouTube ban to stay
ISLAMABAD: It was being speculated that YouTube may be unblocked soon after Eid Al Fitr, but it may take a while before Internet users in Pakistan will once again be able to access the popular video-sharing website, it has emerged.
The information technology ministry had prepared a proposal in this regard that would be presented to an inter-ministerial committee, Minister of State for IT Anusha Rehman Khan said at a briefing yesterday.
The committee, which meets when a need arises, has representation from the ministries of interior, information, and religious affairs.
Court to hear Khan’s case
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has referred Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s contempt case to another bench of the Supreme Court.
According to the new cause list, a three-member bench of the apex court will now hear the contempt case on August 28.
On August 2, a three-member bench had taken up the case and rejected Imran’s two written explanations.
The same bench had asked him to file a comprehensive reply on August 28, but now the case has been referred to another bench.
It has been learnt that the chief justice will not be available in Islamabad next week, as he is going Quetta to hear cases; therefore, Imran Khan’s matter has been referred to a new bench.
Wagon falls in ditch: 13 hurt
Islamabad: At least 13 persons were injured when a wagon fell yesterday in a ditch at the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan.
The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals.
