Doha: Commercialbank and The Youth Company (TYC) recently hosted the first annual spelling bee competition at the bank’s flagship branch on D Ring Road, with students from various schools across Qatar.
The contest was a live competition where contestants, children aged between 11 and 14 years, were asked to spell English words.
The aim of the competition was to improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, and learn language concepts to develop correct English usage.
The first prize winners of each age group took home an iPad 3 and a budget of QR5,000 for their school’s next major annual event. Commercialbank has previously supported other initiatives sponsored by TYC, such as International Youth Day and International Literacy Day.
Dean Proctor, EGM Retail and Consumer Banking, Commercialbank, said: “At Commercialbank it is our ambition to enrich the future of our youth both in personal and professional development and we would like to convey TYC’s youthful spirit. Today’s youth are faced with great challenges and opportunities, primarily due to the current unprecedented global environment.
“We are happy to be associated with TYC given their internship website, Qatar’s National Internship Portal – internship.qa, is a testament to their quest in supporting the development of the youth.”
Diego Pinzon, Acting Executive Director of TYC, said: “Being an organization that strives to empower and develop young talent we are focused on creating life-changing experiences for Qatar’s youth.
The Youth Company’s partnership with Commercialbank will no doubt create more opportunities for various initiatives that encompass mentorships, training programmes on leadership including self-discovery, and how to lead organizations and activities around corporate social responsibility.”
