GENEVA: Qatar has condemned Israel's ongoing violations of the Palestinian people rights.
And the continued attacks and the excessive use of force and indiscriminate shelling of civilian populated areas, leading to many casualties, mostly women and children.
This came in the State of Qatar's speech to the United Nations Office in Geneva, delivered today before the 24th regular session of the Human Rights Council, being held from September 9-27, as part of item 7 on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.
In his speech, the Second Secretary at the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar Al-Mohannad Al-Hammadi called upon the International Community to exert all pressure on Israel, compelling it to abide by international law and stop all violations and barbaric military operations against Palestinian civilians, and to ensure accountability for all those responsible.
The State of Qatar has also strongly condemned the continuation of the unjust blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and the placing of obstacles in front of the movement of Palestinians, preventing them from accessing to basic needs of food, fuel and building materials, as well as basic services such as health and education.
Al-Hammadi stressed that Qatar will provide all it can to relieve the humanitarian suffering of the trapped people in Gaza and will continue to support the relief, development and reconstruction projects in the sector.
The State of Qatar considered that the continuation of the Israeli illegal settlement activities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the forced evictions, house demolitions, building the separation wall, increasing attacks of Israeli settlers on the lives and properties of the Palestinian people and violating the sanctity of al-Aqsa mosque as serious violations of the international law of human rights and the international humanitarian law.
Qatar stressed that Israel must understand that the issue of settlements represents a major obstacle to negotiation efforts being made in order to reach a just and comprehensive peace.
Qatar condemned the torture and murder of Palestinian prisoners and detainees, calling on the International Community to intervene to stop Israel's criminal practices against them, especially children, and to set up a commission of inquiry into the conditions of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israel.
It also called upon the International Community to work in a serious and responsible way for the end of the Israeli occupation of all the Palestinian territories and the withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan and all occupied Arab territories.
The State of Qatar confirmed at the end the speech its continued support of the Palestinian people in their just struggle to achieve all their legitimate rights. (QNA)
