Doha: Ooredoo has become the first operator in Qatar and the first company in the global Ooredoo Group to offer 4G roaming services, enabling customers to enjoy superfast Internet speeds when they travel.
Ooredoo customers will be able to access 4G LTE networks on their 4G-enabled devices in specific countries, with no subscription required. 4G roaming from Ooredoo will be available at standard roaming rates.
Ooredoo’s first 4G roaming partner is Mobily in Saudi Arabia – one of the most-visited destinations in the region – and plans are in place to add new partners in the coming weeks.
Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Operating Officer, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “Ooredoo strives to be the first for our customers, delivering the best network and widest range of services wherever they are in the world. Our 4G network was the first and is the biggest in coverage and capacity in Qatar, we were the first to launch a true roaming product with Ooredoo Passport and we are the first to offer 4G roaming for our customers.”
To ensure full transparency and make customers aware of all roaming costs, Ooredoo has set-up a page at www.ooredoo.qa/en/4G, which will be constantly updated with destinations where 4G roaming is available, along with standard roaming rates.
Since the launch of 4G in 2013, Ooredoo’s 4G network has expanded to cover all inhabited areas of Qatar, becoming fully-nationwide earlier this year.
The 4G network can be accessed by sending the keyword ‘4G’ to 114 for Shahry and ‘121’ for Hala customers.
When travelling abroad, Ooredoo recommends customers to subscribe to Ooredoo Passport, which includes a pre-activated 1 GB data and 100 roaming minutes for QR100 a week to more effectively manage their roaming costs. Passport data usage includes 4G usage if available with that partner.
Ooredoo Passport can be activated by sending the SMS ‘OP’ to 114 for Shahry and 121 for Hala customers.
