DOHA: The Shafallah Centre that provides education and healthcare to children with disabilities has terminated 13 employees, including citizens, and gave them one day to return all office property and collect end-of-service benefits, Al Sharq reports.
Some of the employees had been with the centre for about 14 years and were stunned by the action, said the daily.
Some said they were asking authorities to intervene and restore them to their positions, especially as the decision comes ahead of Eid Al Adha.
The daily said more employees would be terminated soon.
The centre defended the decision, saying some of the sacked staff did not have proper papers required for their jobs.
“We are taking care of children with disabilities and we have to ensure that all staff are highly qualified and effective in handling them,” the daily quoted Mohammed Badr Al Sada,  Director-General, as saying. He said the centre has 850 employees and removing a few would not affect the functioning of the centre or the performance of the students. The Peninsula
