Doha: Experts and political analysts said that the speech delivered by the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reflects the country’s firm and consistent stance on regional and international issues and demonstrates the State of Qatar’s deep commitment to its active role in the region and the world.
In comments to Qatar News Agency (QNA), they said that HH the Amir's address during the opening session of the 80th UN General Assembly contained clear and precise messages, presenting a well-considered strategic vision and a determined position for Qatar in facing regional and global challenges.
Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ghaith Al Kuwari, a legal and government advisor on political and international relations, said that the Amir’s speech was an explicit defense of national sovereignty and a call for peace conditioned on justice, reminding the audience of the founding principles of the United Nations after World War II. Al Kuwari noted that the Amir emphasized that Israel’s airstrike on Doha on September 9 was not merely an attack on a single state but an assault on the entire international order, warning that any country, large or small, could be the next target if such aggression is not confronted. He stressed that protecting state sovereignty lies at the core of the UN Charter.
Al Kuwari added that HH the Amir gave the Palestinian cause top priority in international discussions, framing it as a moral test for the international system and the United Nations. He highlighted Qatar’s pledge to remain an impartial mediator committed to international law and dedicated to preserving peace and justice. Al Kuwari also said that the Amir made it clear that peace cannot be built on the blood of innocents or on policies of delay and deception. He noted that the speech addressed other regional crises, such as those in Sudan, Syria, and Lebanon, demonstrating Qatar’s comprehensive vision that positions it as an active partner in efforts to achieve stability and peace, thereby strengthening its global standing.
Despite the attack on the State of Qatar’s sovereignty and security, Al Kuwari observed that the Amir maintained a diplomatic tone, reaffirming that Qatar would remain an honest broker, drawing its strength from international justice and the trust of states and peoples. He concluded that the speech placed the international community before a historic test, challenging it either to uphold truth, justice, and international law or to allow double standards that could undermine the UN system and erode its credibility in the eyes of the world’s peoples.
Dr. Liqaa Makki, a senior researcher at the Al Jazeera Center for Studies, emphasized that the speech of HH the Amir’s carried great significance, highlighting Qatar’s identity as a peace-loving state that plays a key role in fostering peace and achieving stability regionally and globally. He said the world has welcomed this role, which stands in stark contrast to Israel’s reliance on force. Makki pointed out that the speech reassured the international community that Qatar remains committed to its mediation efforts as the only path to peace in Gaza despite the Israeli assault, working in partnership with Egypt and the United States.
He also noted that the Amir referred to the broad international consensus condemning and rejecting the Israeli attack on Qatar, a reflection of the high status Qatar enjoys internationally as a trusted mediator and promoter of stability and peace. According to Makki, the attack represented a significant setback and failure for Israel.
He further observed that the Amir’s address underscored Qatar’s concern for the wider Arab nation, citing the support for Syria and its people as a clear example of this commitment.
Professor of Public Policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Dr. Sultan Barakat, stated that HH the Amir’s speech exposed Israeli behavior in continuing the war on the Gaza Strip, the brutal assault on the State of Qatar, and the attempted assassination of political negotiators in Doha, revealing the aggressive nature of the Israeli entity and its blatant violation of international law and protocols of peaceful dialogue.
Barakat added that the speech reaffirmed that Israel is not a state of peace, and its goal is not the recovery of hostages, but rather to render the Gaza Strip uninhabitable, alongside the forced displacement of Palestinians to achieve the objective of the Greater Israel project.
He explained that the speech emphasized Qatar’s consistent stance in calling for respect for state sovereignty and international law, considering such sovereignty the cornerstone of the international system. He noted that Israel’s attempt to impose a de facto reality through force, denial of rights, and displacement will not achieve any goal nor lead to peace and stability in the region.
Barakat also highlighted Qatar’s commitment to standing by countries and peoples affected by crises, and its keenness to play an active role in the international community. He pointed out that the speech clearly referenced Qatar’s support and solidarity with its brothers and its advocacy for their just causes.
For his part, political analyst Dr. Khalid Walid Mahmoud commented that HH the Amir’s speech before the United Nations General Assembly was different this year in its content and tone. The speech as a whole constituted an important political message affirming that the Israeli assault on Doha was not merely a targeting of the State of Qatar, but an assassination of the peace option and the principle of peaceful solutions altogether.
Dr. Mahmoud added that HH the Amir placed the international community before a shocking truth that no party seeks to assassinate a delegation it is negotiating with unless it aims to sabotage the negotiations and perpetuate the conflict. Remaining silent about such actions legitimizes the logic of force and entrenches the law of the jungle.
He explained that the tone of the speech was firm and resembled a warning bell, noting that the speech cautioned that the retreat of the international system in the face of such violations reinforces a culture of impunity and pushes the region into deeper chaos.
He continued that HH the Amir reminded the world that Qatar is a peace-making state that has exerted strenuous efforts over two years to stop the war in Gaza, and that the assault on it is a blatant breach of international norms and constitutes state terrorism that cannot be ignored.
Dr. Mahmoud stressed that His Highness affirmed that compromising Doha’s security is a compromise of the very values upon which the United Nations itself was founded.
Dr. Khalid Walid Mahmoud concluded that HH the Amir’s speech lays the foundation for a new phase of Qatar’s presence on the international stage, as the State of Qatar has become central to the equation of global balance through initiative and pressure to achieve just solutions.
He explained that Qatar’s slogan in the coming phase carries meanings of clarity, defense of sovereignty, and protection of the peace option through insistence on mediation as a strategic path that will not be abandoned.
