DOHA: The 11th International Furniture and Design Exhibition (Infdex 2013) opened yesterday at the Doha Exhibition Centre (DEC).

Inaugurated by Qatar Chamber Vice Chairman, Muhammed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari, the four-day expo includes 50 exhibitors from countries including Turkey, Egypt, India, the UAE, Italy, Bahrain, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the US and Qatar.

It caters to the tourism sector and the entire population in general in response to furniture and interior design requirements, Al Kuwari said. He said there would be significant increase in volume of investment in the near future, especially in the real estate sector which would require more furniture and interior design.

With regard to the low turnout of exhibitors to Infdex compared to the previous year, he said: “Since the schedule of the expo was changed, many companies were not able to participate because of other commitments.”

But he assured a bigger participation next year in anticipation of a huge number of upcoming projects which would spur demand for furniture and interior design.

Around 10,000 people are expected to visit the expo organised by Qatar Expo with the main host sponsor Istikbal.

Products at the expo include bed sets, carpets, chairs and tables, closets, flooring, furnishing, kitchen appliances, landscape, lighting, office furniture, wallpapers and antiques.

The expo is open today and on Saturday from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 10pm and on Friday from 4pm and 10pm.
