​Trinamool MP arrested in Saradha scam

Kolkata: Suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh was yesterday arrested in connection with the Saradha Group chit fund scam, police said. “Kunal Ghosh was arrested today. He is now in our custody,” Bidhannagar Commissionerate’s Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) Arnab Ghosh said. The DC said Ghosh was arrested for several offences under sections 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code.
China honours scientist Rao
Bangalore: India’s top scientist C N R Rao, who was recently named for the Bharat Ratna, has been elected honorary foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the first Indian to be so honoured. “Rao is the first Indian scientist to be elected recently (November 4) to the prestigious academy, which consists of several Nobel laureates and eminent scientists of the world,” the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, where Rao is the founder-president, said. Rao is chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh since 2005 in addition to being the national research professor.
Dhanush ballistic missile tested 
Bhubaneswar: India successfully tested its nuclear-capable ballistic missile Dhanush from a naval ship in the Bay of Bengal, an official said. Dhanush is a naval version of the nuclear-capable ballistic missile Prithvi. It has a range of 350km and is capable of carrying a conventional as well as nuclear payload of more than 500kg. It can hit both land and sea-based targets. The missile gives the Indian Navy the capability to strike enemy targets with great precision.
Achuthanandan hits back 
Kozhikode: Even as Saritha Nair, the main accused in what has come to be called the solar scam in Kerala, has filed a complaint against V S Achuthanandan, leader of the opposition in the Kerala assembly, and three others, the latter hit back at her. Responding to queries here after news surfaced that Nair filed a complaint against Achuthanandan for speaking ill of her, the veteran Communist said: “I am least bothered by the complaint because all through I have fought many cases.”  The solar panel scam has been making headlines in Kerala since June 3, when Nair was arrested. Two weeks later, her live-in partner Radhakrishnan was also taken into custody.
