Doha, Qatar: The Asean Committee in Doha (ACD), with the support of the Ministry of Municipality of the State of Qatar, successfully organised a Walkathon event on November 22, 2025 at Legtaifiya Park, Doha.

The event brought together the Ambassadors of the seven Asean embassies represented in Doha, namely H E Mohamed Bahrin Abu Bakar of Brunei Darussalam; H E Ridwan Hassan of Indonesia; H E Faizal Razali of Malaysia; H E Mardomel Celo D. Melicor of the Philippines;

H E Pong Kok Tian of Singapore; H E Sira Swangsilpa of Thailand who is also the Chairman of the Asean Committee in Doha 2025; and H E Nguyen Huy Hiep of Vietnam, along with Asean diplomats, embassy staff, and their families.

The ACD noted and commended Qatar for becoming the first country in the world to have all its municipalities recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) as Healthy Cities, a remarkable achievement that demonstrates Qatar’s commitment to public health and wellbeing.

This milestone also reflects Qatar’s broader vision to promote healthy living, improve mental health across communities, and advance the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 through health, wellbeing, and inclusion in sport. Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam highlighted that the ACD Walkathon fits well with Qatar’s impressive progress in promoting health and well-being.

“We are pleased to have this walkathon activity for the Asean Committee in Doha, an initiative aimed to promote greater awareness and motivation towards healthy living, mental well-being, active ageing and community health among the Asean community in Qatar”, said Ambassador Mohamed Bahrin.

The Legtaifiya Park, located near to several diplomatic and Asean missions in Doha, served as an ideal venue for the walkathon.

The park is home to Qatar’s - and the region’s first - inclusive playground, designed to accommodate all children of all abilities, including those with mobility impairments, further exemplifying Qatar’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive community spaces.
