DOHA: Qatar will attempt to set a Guinness World Records for ‘Most runners in a marathon’ with the Qatar Mega Marathon 2015 on Qatar National Sport Day on February 10.
A press conference was held yesterday in Al Sadd Sports Club to announce details of the event.
The event being organised by Al Sadd Sports Club is expected to attract 50,000 runners to be led by well-known international runners. Participating athletes, members of the public and institutions will be provided with uniforms bearing the Qatari flag and the logo of the club. All participants will be medically examined to determine fitness prior to the race. Considering age differences, participants will be classified into categories covering specific distances.
Awards and certificates will be given to the top finishers.
Organisers said an extensive media campaign will be held with the assistance of athletes and celebrities to promote the event and ensure maximum participation. Apart from using international media, campaigns will also be done through the event’s website and social media such as Facebook and Twitter. A ceremony will be held at the end of the event to be attended by prominent Qatari and Arab figures.
