Paris: Chairperson of the Executive Board of Unesco and Qatar’s Permanent Representative to Unesco H E Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab met with UN Deputy Secretary-General H E Amina Mohamed, on the sidelines of the International Day of Education, observed annually on January 24.
The meeting reviewed ways to strengthen international cooperation in education and support efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the goal of ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.
The Deputy Secretary-General praised Qatar’s role in supporting UN organizations and its contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in the education sector.
Both sides affirmed their support for the forthcoming Action Plan to protect education from attacks, which will be adopted by the next Executive Board session.
Al Hanzab emphasized the importance of safeguarding the right to education, especially in conflict situations, underlining the need to protect educational institutions and ensure the continuity of learning under all circumstances.
