Doha: Al Meera Consumer Goods Company opened its first Geant hypermarket at Hyatt Plaza yesterday.
Dr Saif Al Sowaidi, Vice-Chairman of Al Meera, inaugurated the hypermarket in the presence of board members and other dignitaries.
The opening of the hypermarket is the culmination of an agreement signed between Al Meera and French retailer Casino to develop a network of hypermarkets and supermarkets under the Geant banner in selected Middle East countries.
“The opening of the Geant Hypermarket is in line with our commitment to all our stakeholders, including our shareholders and our customers. We believe that Geant will provide a host of benefits to all,” Dr Al Sowaidi said.
“Today marks a major step towards making Al Meera one of the leading retailers within the region. In our expansion plan, providing high quality and diverse product offerings to our customers was a key pillar,” he added.
With the breadth and visibility of its fresh food offerings, creation of an attractive, sales environment, pertinence of its non-food offerings (textiles, decor, lifestyle, electronics, etc), transformation of the surrounding areas into modern, welcoming, friendly spaces, Geant hypermarket promises a fun-filled and comfort shopping, the company said in a statement.
The Géant hypermarket will adhere to strict international standards to ensure product freshness, by selecting professional suppliers who are able to supply fresh product in quantities with regularity, it added.
The Peninsula
