DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has allayed fears about possible spread of a deadly Sars-like virus, saying no fresh cases have been detected in the country until now.
One of the two Qataris infected with the virus has recovered completely and has returned to the country, the SCH said in a statement yesterday. The other patient is undergoing treatment abroad. Only two cases of the deadly virus have been detected in Qatar until now, said the statement.
The SCH issued the statement following an announcement by the World Health Organisation about a new death in a neighbouring country due to the virus. As a precaution, a travel ban to and from the country where the virus has been detected remains effective, said the statement. If any suspected cases are detected, the affected person will be immediately shifted to Hamad General Hospital for tests, and there are strict instructions to isolate the patient if diagnosed with the virus, it added.
