DOHA: Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is organising activities and events from today to mark Arab Tourism Day being celebrated under the theme ‘Towards Integrated Arab Tourism’.
February 25 coincides with the birth of Arab explorer Ibn Battuta whose work and writings have contributed to highlighting tourism in the Arab world.
QTA represented Qatar in the 17th session of Arab Ministerial Council on Tourism held at Arab League General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo during which the day was officially endorsed.
QTA will post information about the day, its significance and objectives on its social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. It will also start today a three-day cultural competition on its social media channels on the question: “If you were Ibn Battuta, why would you visit Qatar nowadays?”
Participants have to send response in video messages or writing. The winner, to be announced on Saturday, will win a free three-day trip to Qatar.
A special commemorative stamp will be issued in cooperation with General Postal Corporation (Q-Post) to mark the day on February 25 each year. The stamp will be available for customers in all the selling points affiliated with Q-Post.
“QTA celebrates the day out of its belief in the importance of cooperation initiatives with Arab countries to support tourism sectors in the Arab world and the importance of developing tourist destinations and connecting them in such a way that makes Arab cities preferred tourist destinations for Arab and international visitors,” said Saif Al Kuwari, Director, Public Relations and Communications, QTA.
“By celebrating the day, we aim to highlight the importance of promoting tourism in Qatar and Arab countries, particularly that we recently opened a representative office in Saudi Arabia to attract visitors from GCC and Arab countries,” he added. Arab Tourism Organisation’s choice of the theme reflects its belief in the need for integrated efforts to boost Arab tourism. The Peninsula
