BAGHDAD: Chief officer of (Adala) police station in Iraq's Kirkuk Colonel Wesam Abdullah al-Obeidi survived an assassination attempt Monday morning when a roadside bomb, targeted his motorcade, exploded near Wasiti intersection, wounding one policeman.

A security source told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA ) "The explosive device, planted on the side of the road in the district of Wasiti, exploded at the Obeidi's convoy, wounding a policeman and damaging one of the wheels of the convoy.

A police officer also, with the rank of captain, was wounded when an adhesive bomb exploded in his car eastern Baghdad today .

A police source told (NINA) that the explosion occurred, when the car passes through channel's road, adding that the injured was taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, two soldiers were killed and five others were injured when two explosive devices exploded in western Baquba.

A security source said that two bombs exploded at a late hour last night targeting a military patrol on foot on the outskirts of Mafraq district in western Baquba, killing two soldiers and wounding five others.

He added that a military force was quick to impose a security cordon in the area and began a campaign of raids and searches, noting that a military checkpoint was subjected, in the same night, to an armed attack in the village of Mukhisa of Abi Saida district northeast of Baquba, without causing casualties.

Also on Monday a security force arrested five wanted men in a security operation in Baquba, capital of Diyala province.

A security source said that the security force carried out a raid and search operation in and around Baquba, resulted in the arrest of five wanted men, including two suspected in media network linked to al-Qaeda.

He added that the arrest process was in accordance with intelligence information. Pointing out that the security force handed the wanted men to one of the security centers in the province. (QNA)
