Doha: Qatar Exchange ended in the red area again — down for a fourth straight session — when trading closed yesterday at 11,258.51 points, down 0.72 percent, or 81.61 points, from the previous closing of 11,340.12 points.
Local individual investors and institutions as well as foreign retail investors were all net sellers yesterday, while foreign institutions were buying. The volume of shares was up at 15,845,672 from Sunday’s 11,707,429 and the value of shares increased to QR505,786,828.53 from QR440,316,298.89.
Among the top losers were Industries Qatar, whose shares were down 1.69 percent to QR175, Barwa Real Estate lost 1.87 percent to QR34.20, Vodafone Qatar fell 0.91 percent to QR11.97 and Doha Insurance decreased by 2.09 percent to QR22.51.
The banking and financial sector index was down 0.28 percent, while consumer goods and services sector index dropped 0.31 percent. The industrial sector fell 1.42 percent, while insurance sector added 0.94 percent.
Elsewhere in the region, Dubai’s bourse ended a six-day rally yesterday as retail investors took profits, while banks dragged down Bahrain after a merger in the sector fell apart. The rest of the region was mixed.
The main Dubai market index opened higher but then moved into the red as heavyweight Emaar Properties slid 0.8 percent in low-volume trading.
Abu Dhabi’s bourse closed up 0.2 percent thanks to blue chips such as National Bank of Abu Dhabi, which added 1.8 percent. Bank of Sharjah dropped 6.6 percent after going ex-dividend.
Bahrain’s bourse was the Gulf’s biggest loser, shedding 1.4 percent. Khaleeji Commercial Bank fell 2 percent after the lender and unlisted Bank Al Khair failed to agree
on the terms of a merger and dropped the plan. QNA & Reuters
