DOHA: Mohamed Al Aseiri, piloting a Porsche GT3, emerged as the fastest driver in the rescheduled round of Qatar National Road Racing Championship (QNRRC) at Losail International Circuit.

The round was rescheduled after the third leg was washed out due to heave rains in March this year.

The Qatari driver, who started in the fourth position on the grid, grabbed the lead in the second lap and later took the checkered flag with a gap of 1.366 over Abdulaziz Abdulla, who finished second in his Porsche Carrera.

The third place was secured by Talal Wehbe who was driving a Lotus car.

In the Production Class, the winner was Qatari driver Nasser Sheghail Al Abdulla.

David Walker from Great Britain and Rhodelin Senga from the Philippines finished second and third respectively.

Abdulla Al Kharaan of Qatar finished in fourth spot while American driver Eric Febbo was the fifth fastest driver in the Production Class.

Later, Sultan Al Morraikhi, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) Board Member, presented trophies to the top three drivers.

In the points standings, the Australian driver Wehbe and Abdulla from Qatar are leading the championship as both drivers have a tally of 28 points each.

Al Aseiri is in third place with 15 points.

Nasser Al Abdulla is in first place in the Production Class with 20 points. Walker and Saif Al Naimi have a tally of 8 points each. THE PENINSULA
