DOHA: Azerbaijan topped in the two-day Karate International Championship while hosts Qatar finished sixth.
Azerbaijan finished with three gold and four silver to head the medals tally in a competition in which around 200 contestants from 25 countries took part. Jordan came second followed by Saudi Arabia. Qatar picked up one gold, three silver and nine bronze medals to finish behind Uzbekistan and fourth place finisher Georgia. Competitions were held in kumite and kata categories for cadet and junior males, senior men and women.
The event saw players from; Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Palestine, France, Turkey, Ukraine, Latvia, Austria, Croatia, Spain, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan besides hosts taking part.
