Doha, Qatar: Under the patronage of H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, Minister of Municipality, the fifth edition of the Recycling and Sustainability Conference and Exhibition 2025 kicked off today, Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
The two-day event, held at the Raffles Hotel in Doha, is themed "Towards Sustainable Wealth."
The event is attended by a wide range of government and semi-government institutions, private sector companies, local factories, and numerous international entities, in addition to a select group of experts and specialists in the field of waste management and treatment.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellencies the Ministers, Undersecretaries, and Assistant Undersecretaries from various ministries and government agencies.
In his opening remarks, the Minister of Municipality emphasized that the conference represents a leading national and international platform for exchanging experiences and expertise, embodying the Ministry of Municipality's commitment to translating Qatar National Vision 2030 into concrete projects that promote a circular economy and enhance quality of life through an integrated waste management system.

He further spoke about the most notable achievements made in 2024, including the reception of more than 835,000 tons of waste at transfer stations, resulting in more than 40,000 megawatt-hours of energy, 27,000 tons of organic fertilizer, and 277,000 tons of recyclable materials.
He also noted the allocation of 51 quality plots of land in the Al Afjah area, the offering of 30 investment opportunities in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the provision of more than 28,000 tons of sorted materials to the private sector free of charge, in support of the circular economy.
He also pointed to the launch of specific initiatives within the "Zero Waste" program, including the construction of a modern engineering landfill, the rehabilitation of old landfills, and the operation of an advanced sorting station in Al Khor.
He also highlighted digital transformation projects that developed a unified driving system, vehicle tracking, and the immediate issuance of waste disposal permits electronically.
The Minister emphasized that the conference's theme, "Towards Sustainable Wealth," reflects a firm belief that waste represents a promising economic opportunity and an important source of sustainable development.
He noted that the visions, experiences, and partnerships presented will contribute to promoting a culture of sustainability and providing practical, applicable solutions.
He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to all participants, sponsors, and supporters, wishing the conference success.
This year's conference will host 11 panel discussions and 35 speakers from around the world.
It will feature a selection of senior officials from the State of Qatar, as well as a number of experts, specialists, and representatives of companies and institutions operating in the waste management and recycling sector.
The first day of the conference will focus on discussing key topics, including waste treatment projects and reviewing the latest innovative solutions in the fields of treatment and recycling, highlighting the direct impact of these solutions in supporting the circular economy.
The sessions will also address legal practices in the waste management system, mechanisms for effective partnerships between the public and private sectors, and successful models of cooperation between companies and recycling plants.
The second day will address the role of education and scientific research in the field of recycling, the role of sustainable cities in the waste management system, and the circular economy.
The conference will also include dedicated sessions to discuss the role of content creators and social media influencers in raising community awareness of sustainability issues, particularly in the field of recycling.
The sessions will also discuss the impact of creative and engaging content provided by influencers in guiding individual behavior and spreading a culture of recycling, thus contributing to consolidating sustainability concepts and supporting national efforts to build a prosperous future.
The conference will be accompanied by a specialized exhibition, welcoming more than 40 exhibitors, including the Ministry of Municipality and several government institutions, sponsors of the current edition, as well as private sector companies and factories, and owners of recycling and waste sorting initiatives.
The Ministry of Municipality's pavilion at the exhibition will showcase the ministry's most important achievements in this field, along with awareness videos to encourage individuals and companies to reduce waste and use recycled materials.
The current edition of the conference and exhibition aims to showcase the latest technologies and innovative practices in waste treatment, promote the principles of transitioning to a circular economy, and explore the importance of supporting the use of recycled materials across various sectors in the country.
This will instill the concepts of responsible production and consumption, enhance the resilience of the national economy, and encourage sustainable partnerships and practices between the public and private sectors to develop and implement recycling and sustainability initiatives, contributing to achieving the goals of the Third National Development Strategy.
The annual Recycling and Sustainability Conference and Exhibition aligns with the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Municipality and Qatar National Vision 2030.
It is a culmination of the successes of previous editions and a confirmation of the Ministry of Municipality's efforts to promote recycling and encourage sustainable practices.
