DOHA: Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani (pictured) is the new chairman of Vodafone Qatar. Vodafone Qatar held its first quarter (Q1 2013) Board meeting yesterday and announced the new board structure and the company’s financial results for the Q1 ending June 30, 2013.

Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani is the Vice Chairman. Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulla Al Thani (Non-Executive Member), Rashid Fahad Al Naimi (Non Executive Member), Abdulla Mohammed Al Khulaifi (Non-Executive Member), Nick Read (Non Executive Member), Kyle Whitehill (Executive Member), Richard Daly (Non Executive Member) and Steve Walters (Executive Member) are other members of the new board. 

Commenting on his appointment as Chairman of Vodafone Qatar’s Board, Sheikh Dr Khalid said: “I am delighted for the opportunity to Chair Vodafone Qatar’s Board. In its four years of operations, Vodafone Qatar has brought much needed competition to the market that has resulted in improved services and a much better experience for customers.”

Dr Khalid said he looked forward to working with the company’s board members and executive management in continuing Vodafone’s success story in Qatar by taking it to new levels and delivering good financial returns for its shareholders.

Vodafone Qatar’s revenue for Q1 2013 reached QR459m, 31 percent up over the same quarter last year and 5.5 percent growth over the previous quarter. The Mobile average revenue per user (ARPU) was stable at QR123.

The Quarterly profit before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached QR99m, an increase of 92 percent year-on-year. Distributable profit was QR16m for the quarter and Net Loss reduced to QR85m; an improvement of 28 percent over the same quarter last year.

“Revenue for the quarter (Q1 2013) grew by 31 percent year-on-year, driven by a combination of continued strong customer growth and a stable ARPU which resulted in a near doubling of EBITDA over the same period last year,” commented Steve Walters, Vodafone Qatar’s Chief Financial Officer.

Vodafone Qatar’s customer base crossed 1.14-million mark as at June 30, 2013, an increase of 31 percent compared to June 2012 and 5.7 percent growth over the previous quarter. The Peninsula
