Washington: The United States on Friday called for an immediate halt to the ongoing clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border, expressing concern over the escalating tensions between the two countries.

In a statement, the US State Department said it is closely monitoring the border developments with concern. It emphasized the need to protect civilians, resolve disputes through peaceful means, and called for an immediate ceasefire.

This call comes after clashes intensified in Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province, where local officials reported one person killed and five others injured in ongoing fighting between the two sides.

The two nations have long been embroiled in a territorial dispute over border demarcation, which stretches for 817 kilometers. The region has repeatedly witnessed incidents stemming from this unresolved issue.
