DOHA: Egypt’s interim government has hit out at Al Jazeera Mubasher Egypt (Al Jazeera Live Egypt) TV channel, saying it didn’t have the licence to operate in the country.
However, the government added in the same breath that closing down the channel might not help as it could begin its telecast from some other country.
The Information Minister, Doriya Sharafal-Din, told an Egyptian news website almasryaalyoum.com in an interview that to close down Al Jazeera Mubasher was a popular demand in her country.
“The satellite channel is reaching all over Egypt and people have been complaining and asking why we can’t close it down,” she said.
“It doesn’t have the proper licences also.”
But the thing is, closing it down might not serve the purpose as the channel would shift base and begin telecast from elsewhere, the minister added.
