DOHA: The Haj and Umrah department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will today announce the names of applicants selected for this year’s Haj pilgrimage through the online registration system.

A number of applicants are likely to miss the opportunity because the Saudi government has announced a major cut in the quota of pilgrims this year due to the ongoing expansion work in the holy premises in Makkah.

Meanwhile, the joint committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and the Civil Defence department visited Saudi Arabia to inspect the accommodations arranged for pilgrims from Qatar, Al Sharq reported yesterday.

One of the accommodations was not sanctioned because it was found lacking fire exits. It was replaced by another, said the daily.
