School bus mows down helper

Gurgaon: A teenaged boy employed as helper in a private school bus yesterday died here after coming under the vehicle’s wheel, said police. The driver is absconding. Kamal Kumar, 19, a resident of Pataudi town, was killed after falling from the bus due to rash driving by Dharampal driver in sector 40, police said.

The incident took place on the T-point of sector-9 when the school bus was on its way to drop students after classes, police said.

“The driver of the bus was driving at high speed. Kamal fell off the bus and was run over by the vehicle. He died on the spot,” said a police officer.

 

20 missing after truck plunges into UP river

Lucknow: Twenty people were missing after a speeding mini truck plunged into the Ghaghra river in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki last night, police said.

The accident took place in the Ramnagar area when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which broke the railing of the bridge over the river, which is in spate, and plunged into it.

Barabanki’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Anand Kulkarni said that while the driver and three others managed to swim out of the gushing waters, 20 other passengers were still to be traced.

 

12 injured in Rajasthan university polls

Jaipur: At least half a dozen people were Saturday injured in violence during students’ union polls in Rajasthan government universities and colleges, police said here. Two vehicles were torched and police tear gased students at one place.

At least half a dozen people were seriously injured when two groups of students clashed in Dausa, some 100 km from Jaipur, while the votes were being cast at a college, a police officer said.

The students also entered houses in neighbourhoods and misbehaved with women, said the officer.
