DOHA: Teachers in Qatar have the highest salaries in the region, with an average annual income of QR290,000. Qatar is ranked first in terms of teachers’ salaries, followed by United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, according to a report in a local Arabic daily.

Teachers in UAE are the second highest paid in the region, with an annual average income of QR218,000. Kuwait ranks third, with a QR200,000 average annual paycheque for teachers.

In Saudi Arabia, these professionals have an average annual income of QR182,000, whereas on the other end of the ranking are teachers working in Somalia, with an average annual income of only QR3,640. In this context, experts warn that there is a risk of deteriorating education standards in some Arab countries. The salaries of teachers are also an indicator that education in some countries is deteriorating, due to lack of motivation from teachers.
