Qatar blasts Israel over rights violations

Geneva: Qatar has condemned Israel’s ongoing violations of the Palestinian peoples’ rights, continued attacks and excessive use of force and indiscriminate shelling of civilian populated areas, leading to many casualties, mostly women and children.

Qatar’s condemnation came in a speech by the Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Mohannad Al Hammadi, at the 24th session of the Human Rights Council, as part of Item No. 7 on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.

Al Hammadi called on the international community to exert all pressure on Israel, compelling it to abide by international laws and stop all violations and barbaric military operations against Palestinian civilians, and ensure accountability for all those responsible.

Qatar also strongly condemned the continuation of the unjust blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and the placing of obstacles in the movement of Palestinians, preventing them from accessing basic needs such as food, fuel and building materials, as well as basic services such as healthcare and education.

Al Hammadi stressed that Qatar will provide all it can to relieve the suffering of the people trapped in Gaza and support the relief, development and reconstruction projects.

Qatar considers the continuation of Israeli illegal settlement activities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, forced evictions, demolition of homes, building the separation wall, increasing attacks by Israeli settlers on the Palestinian people and their properties and violating the sanctity of Al Aqsa mosque as serious violations of international laws.

Israel must understand that the issue of settlements represents a major obstacle to negotiation efforts being made to reach a just and comprehensive peace.

Qatar condemned the torture and murder of Palestinian prisoners and detainees and called on the international community to intervene to stop Israel’s criminal practices against them, especially children, and set up a commission to probe the conditions of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israel.

Al Hammadi stressed Qatar’s continued support to the Palestinian people in their just struggle to achieve all their legitimate rights. QNA
