London:  German icon Franz Beckenbauer (pictured) has added his name to the list of key speakers at next month’s Securing Sport conference in London, organised by the Qatar-based International Centre for Sport Security.
Widely considered as one of the greatest footballers in history and with a remarkable track record - both as a player and as a manager - Franz will address several crucial issues currently facing sport, including security challenges of hosting mega sport events and emerging threats to football.
Nicknamed ‘Der Kaiser’, Beckenbauer will draw upon his vast knowledge and experience in football, which includes high-level positions on the FIFA Executive Committee, leading the German bid and organising committee for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and more recently, as the Honorary President of FC Bayern Munich.
Taking place at Lancaster House on October 6 and 7 with the conference theme of ‘Sport under threat: the game is ours to win’, Securing Sport 2014 is an invite-only event that will bring together ministers, high-level leaders and international experts from sport, betting, government, civil society, law enforcement and anti-corruption.
Speaking of his involvement, Beckenbauer said: “Securing Sport is one of the leading conferences on the sports calendar and I am excited to be involved in this year’s event. With security and integrity issues high on the agenda, Securing Sport 2014 will provide a unique opportunity for senior decision-makers around the world to address crucial issues that threaten our industry. I look forward to being part of what is a must-attend conference.”
Mohammed Hanzab, ICSS President, added: “When looking for answers on the future of sport, we should learn from those with the greatest experience. Franz is one of those people and is a proven leader at the very highest level of the game. I would like to thank Franz for taking part at Securing Sport 2014 and look to forward to hearing his views and opinions for what I am sure will be a must-attend session.
“With Securing Sport taking place in London for the very first time, 2014 marks an important year in the ICSS’s growth and development with new offices recently opening in Europe and Latin America.
“As the ICSS continues its journey expanding into new markets and working hard to address emerging security and integrity threats, Securing Sport 2014 looks set to be a must-attend event for anyone who is truly passionate about protecting the future of sport.”
