Zurich: The Adjudicatory Chamber of FIFA’s independent Ethics Committee will issue in November a public statement on the investigation on the awarding of 2018 and 2022
World Cups.
Adjudicatory Chamber Chairman Hans-Joachim Eckert yesterday said in a statement released by FIFA, “The report by the investigatory chamber regarding the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups is currently being evaluated by the adjudicatory chamber. It is likely that at the beginning of November, we will be able to give the first public statement of our position with regard to this general report. Our primary task for now is to examine whether the investigatory chamber has followed all the correct procedures and whether, in our assessment, more detailed information is required in certain areas.”
Eckert and Alan Sullivan are currently evaluating the report by the investigatory chamber whose chairman is Michael Garcia.
It is up to the investigatory chamber to decide whether — and if so against whom — specific ethics proceedings should be opened, Eckert said in the statement.
“If Michael Garcia and his deputy Cornel Borbely find that such individual proceedings are required, the matter will be formally referred to the adjudicatory chamber which will then initiate the adjudicatory proceedings. The final decision of any such proceedings will be made public in accordance with article 36 paragraph 2 of the FIFA Code of Ethics,” Eckert said. QNA
