DOHA: Qatar’s men’s 3x3 basketball team reached the semi-finals while Mohammed Abdulwahab and Abdullah Abdulwahab advanced in the men’s singles table tennis event as Qatar continued its campaign at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 yesterday.
In 3x3 basketball, Qatar defeated Mongolia 18-14 in the quarter-finals to book a place in the last four. Qatar will face Iran in the semi-finals today, with the team now one win away from reaching the gold-medal match.
In table tennis, Qatar’s Mohammed Abdulwahab defeated Indonesia’s Muhammad Junindra 4-0, winning 11-2, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 to advance to the second round of men’s singles event. He will face Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto.
Abdullah Abdulwahab also progressed after beating Laos’ Anane Vongsa 4-1. He won 11-2, 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5 and will meet Singapore’s Quek Yong in the second round today.
In women’s doubles second round, Qatar’s pair of Sarrinah Shaikh and Fawziya Al Malki were blanked 3-0 by Republic of Korea’s Nayeong Kim and Eunhye Lee. Maryam Ali and Aia Mohamed fell to Japanese duo of Miyu Nagasaki and Rin Mende with the same scoreline.
In mixed skeet, Rashid Saleh Al-Athba and Reem Al-Sharshani finished fourth with 18 hits after reaching the final. The Qatari pair had topped the qualification standings but missed out on a podium finish. China (52 hits) won gold, the Republic of Korea (51) took silver and India (44) claimed bronze.

Qatar’s shooters had earlier enjoyed success in the discipline, with the men’s team of Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah, Al-Athba and Ali Ahmed Al-Ishaq winning gold, while Al-Athba also claimed individual skeet gold.
Injured Al Tamimi withdraws
Qatari squash player Abdullah Al Tamimi was forced to withdraw from his Round of 16 match against Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue due to a hamstring injury yesterday. Al-Tamimi, who won bronze at Hangzhou 2022, said he had been managing a minor tear before the tournament, but the injury worsened during the match.
“I had hoped to keep going and fight to the very end, especially since I aspired to go as far as possible and contend for a medal,” Al Tamimi said.
Qatar’s artistic gymnastics campaign also concluded yesterday.
Rakan Al-Harith scored 13.900 points on the pommel horse, while Mehrdad Ghadimi recorded 13.400 points. In the women’s vault, Salma Nasser Hamed scored 11.516 points.
Today, Qatar’s handball team faces hosts Japan in the final Group A match. Both teams have four points after winning their opening two matches, with Qatar beating Hong Kong 40-17 and China 30-25. The match will decide the group winner.
Qatar are bidding for a fourth consecutive Asian Games handball title after winning gold at Incheon 2014, Jakarta 2018 and Hangzhou 2022.

Ibrahim, Osman set for 400m challenge
The Qatari athletics duo of Ammar Ibrahim and Ashraf Osman will begin their campaign today when they compete in the men’s 400m heats, with both aiming to secure places in the final also scheduled today at Mizuho Park Stadium in Nagoya.
The pair will be looking to put up strong performances in the heats and progress to the final as they start their participation at the Games.
Moaaz Ibrahim was also in action yesterday in the discus throw, finishing fifth with a best effort of 59.39m. China’s Abuduaini Tuergong won gold in the event with a mark of 64.26m.
Qatari athletics features a strong lineup across various events, with the athletes hoping to make their mark and add to the sport’s record at the Asian Games. At the previous Games in Hangzhou, China, Qatar’s athletics team won six medals, including three gold and three silver.
Meanwhile, Qatar will also feature in equestrian and swimming today. Jassim Mohammed Al-Jaham Al-Kuwari and Saud Ahmed Al-Buainain will compete in the men’s individual dressage event, while the swimming team will take part in the 50m breaststroke, 200m backstroke, 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly.
Qatar’s medal tally stands at four, including two gold, one silver and one bronze.
