DOHA: Four art students from the UK’s Slade School of Fine Art have teamed up with four Qatari artists as part of the Qatar UK Artist’s Exchange Residency programme.
Managed by Doha-based Ben Barbour, the programme will be hosted at Katara Cultural Village, concluding on 16 November.
The Qatari artists taking part are: Shaymaa Alyafey, Ameera Al Aji, Ahmed Nooh and Ali Al Mullah. The artists have honed their skills at Katara Cultural Village’s own artistic residency and educational programmes under the supervision of Sa’id Costa, Curator of Visual Arts Exhibitions & Educational Programs at Katara Cultural Village.
The UK students include Hannah Shin, Jennifer Martin, Robert Crosse and Zoe Schoenherr from the Slade School of Fine Art. They will be paired with their Qatari peers to create art together over the coming month, which will be on display at Katara Cultural Village later in the year.
“We are very excited to be welcoming these art students over from the UK. We are very grateful to the Slade School of Fine Art, one of the leading art education institutions in the world, joins us in the Artist’s Exchange Residency. We look forward to this artistic collaboration and are excited to see their joint work showcased later in the year,” said Costa.
Martin Hope, Director, British Council Qatar said: “This Artist’s Exchange Residency embodies what the Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture strives for; it creates lasting partnerships between institutions and individuals and it sparks an international exchange of culture and ideas. We are very grateful for these students to have the chance to learn from each other and are heartened to build upon nine months of high quality, high-level cultural engagement between our two nations.”
