DOHA: The Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking (QFCHT) is planning to set up a shelter for men victims of human trafficking.
“So far women and children victims of human trafficking are being sheltered by Qatari House for Lodging and Human Care (QHLHC),” said Maryam Al Malki, director general of QFCHT. The foundation is providing complete services to victims of human trafficking through the QHLHC and workshops are being held to train the staff to help the victims. There is a need to train citizens in dealing with complaints lodged to the foundation and providing them consultation services, Al Malki told Al Raya.
The hotline set up by QFCHT in Arabic and English is playing an effective role in helping the victims and in the coming year five more languages would be added making it more efficient in receiving complaints, she added.
Regarding the law to regulate domestic workers including housemaids, she said the draft law has been prepared by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and forwarded to the Authority concerned for review.
QFCHT is a member of the concerned committee assigned to study the draft law. The law specifies how to recruit housemaids and indicates the rights, duties and responsibilities of all parties, she said.the peninsula
