DOHA: Arvind Patil Shivamurthy is the new President of Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF).
He defeated Mohamed Habib-Un-Nabi and Clarence Joseph in a triangular election yesterday. Members the forum elected their new president and other office-bearers through electronic voting held for the first time with the help of Kerala Social and Cultural Center.
Of the 388 votes, Patil got 190, Nabi 107 votes and Joseph 85.
Dedis Edukulathur, Saroj Shukla, Zafar Khan, Santhosh Neelkantan, Abdu Samad and K S Prakash were elected new members of the managing committee. Elections are held biennially.
ICBF is a welfare corpus managed by the community and affiliated to Indian embassy and helps Indians in distress. It carries out welfare work with help from the embassy and the Indian community at large through donations.
P S Sasi Kumar, Deputy Head of Mission at the embassy, was returning officer in the election.
Habib-Un-Nabi extended best wishes to the new president and his team. The election was held between 6pm and 9pm at Indian Cultural Centre, Al Mamoura.
